Omkar Speciality Chemicals to expand in India Chemicals-Technology (19/11/2012)

India-based Omkar Speciality Chemicals is planning to invest Rs1.5bn ($27m) during the next 18 months in order to increase its production to 3,650mtpa from 950mtpa.


As part of the investment plan, the company will increase the production capacity of its Badlapur plant, in India, from 1,700tn to 3,650tn, while the recently acquired Ratnagiri plant is set to produce 7,800tn of new specialty chemicals by April 2013.


The company will also invest Rs250m ($4.5m) in the Raigad plant to increase its API production to 500tn, which will become functional by 2014, according to Business Standard.


Omkar Speciality Chemicals, which has three manufacturing units in Thane, India, is also planning for a fourth plant in the same locality.


The company is also developing new chemical processes to produce cost-effective and environmentally-friendly products.


Omkar's chairman and managing director Pravin S Herlekar said the increased commercial production in all the company's plants will begin within 18 months.
